Thank you so much for answering the questions below to help me understand what's working with the class and also how to improve it for future PWR students. As opposed to the "official" axess survey that you will be filling out, this one will be read only by me.
What were the best parts of the course (activities, readings, pedagogical approach, etc.) that you think I should definitely retain or expand on in future Rhetgaming classes?
Please reflect specifically on the Primary Source Party (from week one), the visit to Special Collections, and the Library Game. How would you modify these experiences to best accomplish their pedagogical goals? What would you keep the same? Is there a type of field trip or activity of this nature that you think I should ADD to the class?
Please comment on our in-class workshop with our librarian, Felicia Smith. What worked? What didn't? Now that you've been researching for several weeks, what do you think would be the most valuable skills, strategies, or information to emphasize during a library workshop in week 4-5 of the quarter that would equip you not only for the Tic but for the RBA too?
Please comment on the required Hume Center appointment. What did you get out of it? Do you think I should continue to require it? Why or why not? Would you have gone if it hadn't have been required? Or do you think I should just give "bonus points" for students who go? Would that have been enough of an incentive?
What suggestions would you make about changing aspects of the course (activities, readings, pedagogical approach, etc.) and why? Can you provide some ideas about how I might accomplish the same pedagogical goals but in a more effective manner?
I've been experimenting with screencasts this quarter -- both to provide outside-of-class overviews of assignments and also to give feedback on some of your written work. Which screencasts did you watch? Which were most helpful? Why? How can I continue to improve my integration of screencasts into my teaching?
Some of you mentioned during the quarter that you didn't like that our deadlines were slightly in advance of those for other PWR 1 classes. Now that it's the end of the quarter and you're almost done with the RBA, would you change it? Changing it would involve either 1. getting rid of the first draft of the RBA and having only 1 draft for the RBA so we would still be done on the last day of class or 2. pushing everything later and having the RBA due near finals. Or did you prefer things the way they were?
Was the writing time in class on Monday December 5th useful? Why or why not? Should I continue to offer a day like this in future classes?
Any additional comments about the class?
What advice, tip or insight would you leave for future Rhetgaming students about this class or PWR 1 in general? This can be funny or serious -- I may in fact share it with my next class.
Bonus question: What is the ONE GAME you think that I should play over break to continue my research into the "primary texts" of gaming culture? Why? ;)
